Simplifying Statistics for Experimenters

Trusted by The Economist to train 60 leaders, and founded by the statistician who built VWO’s Stats Engine.

Why Thinking Bell?

After building the stats engine at VWO, I realised that an A/B testing tool can never take the right decisions on your behalf.

Because the right interpretation of data depends on what you know about your business.

If you are surprised, you need more data to believe what you see. If it seems obvious, you can be confident even with less data. But to tell what is surprising, you need to know how randomness behaves.

That’s exactly what statistics teaches you!

But unfortunately, most of us are taught statistics in a way that it becomes abstract and dry. After simplifying statistics for many experimenters, I believe I have a more intuitive way to teach statistics.

That’s why I started Thinking Bell, to simplify statistics for experimenters so they can design better experiments and make sharper decisions.

Vision and Philosophy

At Thinking Bell, we imagine a world where every experimenter makes decisions with the statistical clarity and confidence. Our work builds on three core beliefs.

Experimenters don’t need statistical theory

They need clarity on how to tackle randomness in the real world.

Learning sticks when it’s playful

Gamification is at the heart of our teaching through digital tools or collaborative games.

Experimenters need robust statistical products

Easy to use, yet rigorous enough to deliver insights they can trust.

Ishan Goel

Ishan Goel

Hi! I am a stats geek with a passion for writing and teaching.

But my journey has taken me through all possible twists and turns. I started as a computer programmer but with a twist of fate I landed into stats research in experimentation and causal inference.

Which got me an opportunity to build VWO’s stats engine under the guidance of their founder. And that taught me how to get out of a researcher’s mindset, and observe what experimenters really need.

And finally, after talking to dozens of experimenters, writing 20+ blogs and giving 15+ talks, I started building Thinking Bell.

When not working, I like to read books, write poetry and play music.

I look forward to knowing you in class.
